An Educational Field trip to the Capital Region

Utica Academy of Science boys basketball has been featured in the Observer Dispatch for their impressive season thus far and all they have accomplished in 5 years.

Friday, December 10th, 2021—Earlier this month, the Utica Academy of Science junior senior high school ENL students embarked on a field trip to the Capital Region where they learned all about the history of New York state. Their first stop of the field trip included visiting the oldest and largest state museum in the country, the New York State Museum. During their visit, students learned about art, science, and human/natural history of the state. Some of the exhibits they saw included: ice ages, Cohoes Mastodon, birds of New York, and Adirondack Wilderness.

No field trip is ever complete without visiting the Capital Region’s premier destination, Crossgates Mall where the students grabbed a bite to eat and did some shopping.

What a fun, memorable and educational learning experience!

There’s Snow Place like School on a ‘Snow Day!’

Utica Academy of Science elementary school Atoms created ornaments during their in-school snow day event.

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021The week of Winter Recess, Utica Academy of Science elementary school spread a little ‘holiday cheer’ by creating an in-school snow day on the half-day of school. Throughout the day the students participated in a variety of creative, hands-on activities, games and activities that were holiday and winter themed. From decorating cookies, to trying their luck at constructing gingerbread houses made out of graham crackers, to playing reindeer games (quite literally), to even letting their sillies out by playing in the school gymnasium. It is safe to say that this in-school snow day will most certainly be going down in history, much like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!

We hope all of our students are enjoying their Winter Recess, and we look forward to seeing them next week.

Atoms Rocked The Stanley for their Holiday Concert

Utica Academy of Science elementary school Atoms sang and danced to a variety of holiday songs at their annual Holiday Concert held at the Stanley Theater.

Tuesday, December 21st, 2021“The best way to spread holiday cheer is singing loudly for all to hear!” - Elf

Earlier this month, the Utica Academy of Science elementary school Atoms were busy preparing for their annual Holiday Concert. Each grade dressed in various themes from holiday colors of red, white, and green, to even the ever popular 'ugly sweaters.' During the Holiday Concert, guests heard musical stylings from the Atoms, a special drumline performance, and of course singing and dancing. What made this performance different from previous years, is that this concert would be held at the famous historic Stanley Theater with their names in lights on the marquee!

While pre-concert jitters may have been among not only the students, but teachers alike, the Atoms certainly rocked the house and there was certainly holiday cheer, laughter and merriment to be had everywhere in the building.

We would like to take this moment to thank everyone who helped make this event possible, and for all the students and their families who attended the performance - thank you for your patronage and supporting the Atoms and the arts! Please click here to visit our Facebook page to view more pictures from the 2021 Utica Academy of Science elementary school Holiday Concert!

We hope all of our Atoms and their families are having a very happy holiday and a safe Winter Recess!

Season's Greetings from SANY Schools - 2021

Hello Utica Academy of Science Charter School Families,

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the holiday break - where has this time gone? As we get ready to celebrate the holiday season with family and loved ones that are near and dear to us, I wanted to take a brief moment to reflect on all that has happened this past year.

As the year started off with much promise as the COVID-19 vaccine would be made available to the vast majority, the year 2021 seemed like it would bring much hope and light in the times of darkness. At some point throughout this year, I think we all expected to be beyond COVID-19 and its far-reaching impact on the education system, however, much like the 2020 school year, our students, teachers, faculty and staff overcame many obstacles and challenges that presented themselves. If the 2020 school year taught us anything, there is nothing we (as Atoms) can’t accomplish.

Despite the many challenges this year faced, I am reminded of a quote by Mahatma Gandhi, ‘in the midst of darkness, light persists.’ I am drawn to this quote by the generosity, positivity and actions presented this year by the Utica Academy of Science Charter School Atoms. But don’t just take my word for it, take a look at all the many wonderful things the students have accomplished thus far.

👉 Utica Academy of Science Charter Schools moves to one building, and becomes a Title I school.

👉 Utica Academy of Science Charter Schools voices were heard all across Central New York including: WKTV, Talk of the Town, and Observer Dispatch, as they expressed their challenges with Durham School Services and its transportation services.

👉 Utica Academy of Science elementary school students received a special visit from Kiss FM who presented the students with goodies and a class pizza party as part of their 'It's Cool to be Kind' campaign.

👉 Utica Academy of Science boys soccer team is named the 2021 Division Champions.

👉 Utica Academy of Science junior senior high school students took first place in the 2021 CNY Steamboat Competition.

👉 Utica Academy of Science junior senior high school students took third and fourth place in the CNY Bridges: Build ‘Em & Bust ‘Em competition.

👉 Utica Academy of Science junior senior high school introduces a Character Strong school program that is designed to improve and enhance character development and social-emotional learning through building relationships with peers and teachers.

👉 Utica Academy of Science junior senior high school students in the Cybersecurity class all pass their Certified Secure Computer User (CSCU) test and receive their certificate by EC-Council Academia.

👉 Utica Academy of Science junior senior high school sends holiday cards to elderly citizens.

While we are halfway through the school year, Atoms continue to show that they are the light that is shining through the darkness.

Someday, when we look back at this period and reflect upon how we lived through these challenging times, I will always be reminded that it was because of each and every one of our Atoms, their families, teachers, faculty and staff. Many Atoms, one family. We wish you a very happy holiday!

Sincerely,

Dr. Tolga Hayali
SANY Superintendent
