Sixth Annual Science Fair at #UASCS Middle School

On Thursday, February 28, 2019. #UASCS hosted the 6th Annual Science Fair. 38 projects were presented by our aspiring scientists and covered topics from "Effect on Clorox on Bacteria," "Money Equals Power," and "Static Electricity." This year projects were judged by MVCC faculty members, and by Dr. Basic from #UASCS. Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Science Fair, and a special shout out to all of the winning projects.

The Grand Award Winner was Naida Mujkic with the project title “Are Eyewitness Accounts Reliable?” We would like to extend special gratitude to the MVCC STEP program for their support. In addition to the certificate of participation, students received numerous rewards for their effort and zealous approach to science.

First Grade Goes Behind the Scenes at WKTV

On Friday, February 15, 2019, first graders went behind the scenes at our local WKTV News Studio. The students learned about the enhanced technology in the control room and the types of job available at a news station. #UASAtoms met the news anchors and watched from the sidelines during a live newscast. Our students were full of questions and excitement, and a few walked away saying that they would like to work at a news station someday. Thank you, WKTV, for a great visit.

Winter Ball 2019

On Friday, February 15, 2019, UASCS high school students danced the night away at the Winter Ball held at Delta Hotel in Utica, NY. In addition to enjoying plenty of good cheer, laughter, socializing and great food, high school students shared a night to remember. We would like to give big thank you to Delta Hotel staff for preparing the event and providing everything just the way we asked.

Trekking in a Winter Wonderland

On Friday, February 15, 2019, snowballs were flying and laughter filled the air as UASCS sophomores trekked through the woods of Boonville in snow shoes. Scholars clumsily raced down a snowy hill, to see who was the fastest in the cumbersome shoes, resulting in many wipeouts fit for America’s Funniest Home Videos. Students made snow angels, had an epic snowball war, and shared lunch together in a warming hut, truly enjoying the wonders of winter in central New York. A huge thank you goes out to the Black River Outdoor Education Program for inviting our sophomores to Boonville.

Drone Program @MVCC

The UASCS Drone Team is hard at work on a project that’s part of Mohawk Valley Community College’s weekly drone program. The program is designed to expose students to emerging technologies and provide them knowledge about STEAM-related subjects. During a recent session, students worked on design and 3D printing, as applied to drone technology.

A New York State Supreme Court Justice in the 5th Judicial District of New York, Bernadette Clark visited the kindergarten class to read a book called “I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark.” Students learned about the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and how she proves that disagreeing does not make you disagreeable! Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has spent a lifetime disagreeing for the sake of justice: disagreeing with inequality, arguing against unfair treatment, and standing up for what’s right for people everywhere.
