#UASCS Students at the 40th Annual Utica College Science Fair

On Saturday, March 24th, 2018, Utica College hosted the 40th Annual Regional Science Fair. UASCS Scholars participated with eight projects in this important event. The #UASCS scholars presented competitive projects in several disciplines. UASCS students, Zerina Tricic and Clifton Rogers received certificates for their projects. The UASCS will continue to contribute to the development STEAM in the Mohawk Valley by expanding the UASCS Annual Science Fair, and through participation in local, regional, and national science fairs.

Students Visit Hamilton College

On Friday, March 30, 2018, UASCS students visited Hamilton College, enjoying the opportunity to attend on international day, a day in which students from various countries are prominently recognized. Students toured the college and had lunch with college students currently attending Hamilton. UAS students learned about campus life firsthand and what it takes to become a Hamilton College student. #UASCS #UASAtoms

Field Trip to NYS Museum in Albany Brings History to Life

On Thursday, March 29, 2018, Utica Academy of Science students visited the New York State Museum in Albany, NY. Students enjoyed the opportunity to learn about New York State historical events in an enriching way. The museum explores and expresses the empire state’s significant natural and cultural diversity, past and present. #UASCS #UASAtoms

Parents and Students Attend Information Session for New UAS Elementary School

On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, Utica Academy of Science held an information session for parents and students eager to learn about the new elementary school slated to open in the fall of 2018. Our superintendent Dr. Hayali attended and was available to meet with parents of future students, as well as future students themselves. #UASCS #UASAtoms

Staff Receive Professional Development in Building Safety and Emergency Planning

On Monday, March 26, 2018, Utica Academy of Science Charter School (UASCS) provided its staff with professional development dedicated to building safety and emergency planning. Presentations about safety and emergency response were provided for each building level. In addition, the Utica Police Department provided training on how to respond to an active shooter. Teachers asked questions and learned about possible scenarios in which an active shooter might occur. Captain Cinque and his colleague gave teachers instruction in how to respond to the threat of an active shooter. UASCS will continue to revise and improve its safety and security policies by working with local agencies and providing training for staff.

UASCS Celebrates Charter Renewal and School Expansion

On Thursday, March 22, 2018, Utica Academy of Science Charter School (UASCS) celebrated its 5th anniversary and the renewal of its charter. Invited guests included teachers, staff, parents and Board of Trustee members, as well as community members and leaders. In addition to renewal of its charter, UASCS has received approval to expand its range of grades to include elementary education. The special celebration provided an opportunity to acknowledge appreciation of five-year veterans of the school. And in recognition of outstanding contributions made to the Utica community, Mrs. Harvey and Mr. Marken were presented awards. A movie highlighting the first five years of UASCS was shown during the event, bringing memories—and in some case tears—to current and former members of the community.

Middle school celebrated Nurse Appreciation Day

On Monday, March 19, 2018, Mr. Duman and Ms. Beard handed out a card and bouquet of flowers to Ms. Jorgensen, middle school nurse. Ms. Jorgensen is an essential member of our community that contributed a lot with her hard work and amazing interpersonal skills. #UASCS #UASAtoms

Utica Academy 5th Annual Science Fair was a blast

On Saturday, March 17, 2018, Utica Academy of Science held its 5th annual science fair. There were scholars present from grades 6th, 7th and 8th. There were many talented and unique projects presented and judged. A big thank you goes out to the scholars and science teacher for their hard work, and the parents for making this possible. There were many demonstrators at the fair as well showing off some impressive displays of science, technology and engineering.

Sixth graders went to Mohawk Valley Community College

On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, 6th grade scholars had the opportunity to tour and learn about Mohawk Valley Community College. For many of our scholars this is the first time on a college campus. Students were able to view the facilities and get a feel for college life. #UASCS #UASAtoms

Utica Academy held its first College Fair

On Tuesday, March 13, Tuesday, 2018, Utica Academy of Science held first annual College Fair in the high school gym.

We believe that college fairs are unique opportunities for our scholars to meet college admission representatives face to face and begin the process of thinking and determining college. It provides great help to start searching process or narrowing down to college options. For our first fair, there were 15 different colleges present and 6 different colleges who could not attend but sent materials for representation. We thank all colleges representatives who helped us to make it happen.
