Tuesday, June 7th, 2022—Utica Academy of Science elementary school's 1st-grade Atoms have all the zoo vibes when they take a walk on the wild side while exploring the Utica Zoo for a field trip.
From Lions to Bactrian Camels to Spider monkeys, to beavers and everything in between, students learned about animals worldwide. The Utica Zoo is home to over 200 animals representing 99 species, with the main exhibit collection having over 140 individual animals representing 64 species.
Some fun facts the Atoms learned include that Bactrian Camels Najla and Furlow can drink 30 gallons of water in only 13 minutes! As well as the African Lions Donovan, Corky, and Murphy's roar could be heard as far as 5 miles away, and lions are the most social of the big cats! Their lion prides can have up to 30 individuals.
Thank you, Utica Zoo for such a ‘Zoo’per experience! Please click here to visit our Facebook page to view additional pictures from Utica Academy of Science elementary school’s 1st-grade field trip to the Utica Zoo.
Thursday, May 26th, 2022—Utica Academy of Science elementary school's 6th-grade Atoms discovered, learned, and played during a field trip to the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST).
This hands-on, minds-on day allowed the Atoms to apply what they learned in the classroom with the various interactive exhibits, science experiments, and much more. Some topics the students learned about at the MOST include paleontology, plate tectonics, biology, and aeronautics.
Students even put their STEM skills into action by participating in Build. With multiple building blocks of all shapes and sizes, Atoms could pretend they were architects, civil engineers, and designers through sensory play.
Atoms also dug deep into the Earth's history by exploring the Earth Science Discovery Cave. Students learned about plate tectonics, cave formation, climate change, and the geologic history of New York state.
One can't simply learn about Earth's history without first learning (and traveling back in time) to the age of the dinosaurs. Students visited the Dino Zone, where they saw lifelike dinosaurs created in collaboration with paleontologists that are displayed in scenes depicting what life was like on Earth over 65 million years ago. This exhibit was a favorite for many students and an excellent spot for a few photo ops and selfies!
Not to be outdone, students learned about Aerospace engineering, physics, and space science when visiting the Lockheed Martin Flight & Space exhibit ... which includes a zero-gravity jumper!
Needless to say, this field trip to the MOST was out of this world; in fact, many students fell asleep on the bus ride home.
Thank you to the MOST for such a memorable and remarkable experience! Please click here to visit our Facebook page to view additional pictures from Utica Academy of Science elementary school's 6th-grade field trip to the MOST.
Monday, July 4th, 2022—Red, White, and Blue, we wish a happy 4th of July to You! We hope all our Atoms have a happy, healthy, and safe Independence Day. Below are some fun facts about the 4th of July.
Wednesday, June 8th, 2022—Utica Academy of Science elementary school's 1st-grade Atoms let their feet do the talking when the Utica City Football Club stepped onto their turf.
Throughout the afternoon, Atoms had an opportunity to participate in and practice soccer drills and activities that would enhance their hand-foot coordination, quick feet, and ball-handling skills. Atoms also had a chance to meet multiple soccer players, Utica City Football Club staff members, and the General Manager.
Thank you, Utica City Football Club, for taking time out of your busy schedule to help the Atoms become the best on the soccer field! We appreciate your assistance coordinating and leading the students in various soccer activities and drills.

Tuesday, June 21st, 2022—School may be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look back on some of the fun we had the last few weeks of school.
To celebrate the last week of school, Utica Academy of Science elementary school's 6th-grade Atoms packed their swimsuits and headed to New York's largest Water Theme Park, Water Safari for a class field trip.
Despite the chilly weather, the Atoms enjoyed checking out the 50 rides and attractions and testing the 32 waterslides. No trip to Water Safari is complete without the traditional class picture at the Paul Bunyan statue.
We hope all our Atoms have an excellent, happy, healthy, and safe summer!
At Utica Academy of Science high school, the Senior Video is a time-honored tradition that is a highlight for many of the Atoms in the graduating class. After months of interviews, the Senior Video was viewed for the first time by the Class of 2022 at their high school graduation ceremony on Friday, June 24th at Utica Academy of Science GYM.
For the Senior Video, each member of the graduating class was encouraged to share their plans following graduation, words of advice for future Atoms, where they see themselves in ten years, and much more.
Today, we share with you the class of 2022's Senior Video! We wish all our students the best of luck in their future endeavors. We are many Atoms, One Family.
Please stay tuned for pictures from the Utica Academy of Science high school Class of 2022 Graduation ceremony.
Tuesday, May 24th, 2022—Utica Academy of Science elementary school’s Kindergarten Atoms discover and explore the Animal Kingdom on a field trip to the Fort Rickey Discovery Zoo. During their visit, students had an opportunity to interact and get up close to pet and feed animals from all over the world. A couple of their field trip highlights include holding on to a baby goat, having animals eat right out of the palm of their hands, and for the bravest Atoms having a snake rest ever so gently on top of their head.
This action-packed day was filled with many exotic memories that the students will cherish forever. Please click here to visit our Facebook page to view additional pictures from the Utica Academy of Science elementary school's Kindergarten field trip to the Fort Rickey Discovery Zoo.
Sunday, June 19th, 2022—Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there—whether you're a dad or like a dad. Your love is the greatest and most precious gift in the world.
In honor of Father's Day, we want to take this moment to wish all fathers a happy Father's Day. Thank you for all that you do in your Atoms' life. Happy Father's Day!
Friday, June 10th, 2022—Someone queue the pomp and circumstance, as it's almost time for graduation! As the Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school graduating seniors from the Class of 2022 prepare for their upcoming graduation, they first take a walk to where it all began, elementary school.
These future graduates donned their caps and gowns and walked through Utica Academy of Science elementary school halls holding hands with the youngest Atoms as classmates cheered them on. This time-honored tradition allows our Elementary Atoms to see what they can strive for and look forward to while reminding our Seniors to see where it all started.
To celebrate, elementary school teachers and students decorated and made signs to congratulate the seniors on their hard work and accomplishments.
We wish our Class of 2022 the best of luck with their upcoming graduation and future endeavors!
Friday, June 10th, 2022—We may have some future spelunkers here, as Utica Academy of Science elementary school's 4th-grade Atoms said yes to keeping adventure and exploration alive when visiting the Howe Caverns.
Their adventure began when they stepped into an elevator that took them 156 feet below the Earth's surface to a prehistoric destination 6 million years in the making. In this prehistoric cavern, stalagmites and stalactites filled the area. While many might think that being that far below the Earth's surface would be chilly, at Howe Caverns, it was constant 52 degrees Fahrenheit and 75% humidity year-round.
This geological adventure reminded the students just how deep below the Earth's surface they were when hearing every sound echo off the walls and ceilings. Atoms learned about the magnificent limestone and flowstone and conservation efforts to preserve this prehistoric location for future generations to enjoy.
The Howe Caverns is New York State's 2nd most visited Natural Attraction and a favorite field trip location amongst the Atoms. Please click here to view additional pictures from Utica Academy of Science elementary school's 4th-grade field trip to Howe Caverns.
