Friday, January 5th, 2023: The Atoms Soccer Club has finished its first session of the school year. The scholars participated in different activities that gave them opportunities to develop their technical abilities, cognitive decision-making skills, and social-emotional skills. They had weekly training sessions and games throughout the season.
Here’s a special message from Coach Merriam:
"The kids are improving, and that's wonderful, but the real gain from all this is the community that is being built around the kids. We have something beautiful, and it comes full circle. The school supports the program and coaches, the coaches train the scholars, the scholars get opportunities to grow through sport, and as they get into the high school they have a chance to mentor the younger kids. So, it really goes full circle in the sense of building community. Everyone helps out."
Thursday, December 21st, 2023: Kindergarten and 1st grade students boarded the Polar Express. Atoms each received a ticket and sat in rows as they imagined the magical train ride. Our very own conductor, Ms. Smith, read the story. It was a magical day in the K-1 hallway of Utica Academy of Science.

Thursday, December 21st, 2023: Mrs. Marrotta's fourth-grade class made gingerbread houses to show their creativity and holiday spirit. They used graham crackers and frosting to build the foundation and candies for the delectable decorations. Utica Academy of Science Atoms did an excellent job making unique designs!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023: December was Spice It Up Month, a celebration of international recipes that are proven to raise the bar of the spice rack. Utica Academy of Science 4th grade scholars learned about the origin and health benefits of herbs and spices, including cinnamon, clove, allspice, and dill. Atoms smelled the herbs and spices after learning where they came from. Students then watched a cooking demo of warm baked apple slices that included spices in the recipe. Afterward, students were able to taste-test the apple slices. Students received recipe cards, activity sheets, and an apple for a snack!
Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Ms. Tayler's kindergarten class had an unexpected visitor straight from the North Pole! Santa Claus was coming to town and he came right into class with a bag full of gifts!
Santa’s visit was sponsored by the Meadows Senior Living Apartments based in New Hartford, as part of their community give back challenge. They also kindly donated snacks for the class holiday party and activities for the classroom such puzzles, coloring books, and stickers!
