First Annual Veterans Appreciation Day

On Friday, November 9, 2018, #UASCS High School held its First Annual Veterans Appreciation Program. Nine veterans were honored and thanked by the #UASCS community for their service and the sacrifices they made for this country.

The first part of the program included a small ceremony during which veterans were presented with framed Certificates of Honor and attendees watched a video of students and staff expressing their gratitude. Following the ceremony, veterans walked through the high school hallways to be greeted by all students and staff while patriotic music played over the speaker system. Finally, veterans and select students participated in a conversation table while enjoying cake and beverages. Thank you to the veterans, students, and staff who participated and thank you to Mrs. Paul for planning this wonderful event!

Build 'Em and Bust 'Em with #UASCS Middle School

On Saturday, November 10, 2018 #UASCS middle school students participated in CNY Bridges Build 'Em & Bust 'Em competition at the Museum of Science & Technology - MOST.

The Build ’Em and Bust ’Em bridge building competition gives students an opportunity to test their ability in engineering, teamwork, and design. Each team builds a balsa wood bridge to test the strength and durability of their design.

Each #UASAtom received a participation certification, but more importantly, they utilized their STEM skills as this project leading them to develop their engineering skills. Encouraging our students to participate in STEM Challenges is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

Kindergarten Field Trip to North Star Orchards

On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, our three #UASCS Kindergarten classes went on a trip to North Star Orchards. Upon arrival, we were greeted and split into two large groups. Group one began the trip on the hayride, while group two started under a pavilion and learned about the seasons and the apple cider making process. While the hayride took us around the property, the driver stopped several times so that the students could learn about everything that they grow on the farm, (apples, pumpkins, blueberries, Christmas trees, corn, etc.).

#UASAtoms also had the opportunity to learn about the property, buildings on the farm and see the cows! Once both groups were able to get through their stations, each class was able to pick a pumpkin to take home. The Orchard was also nice enough to send a box of apples back with us so that we could have time to see everything before it was time to leave. Thank you, Northstar Orchards!

#UASCS High School Performs Community Service with Utica Mayor Palmieri

“Keep It Clean, Keep It Safe.”

On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, Mayor of Utica, Robert Palmieri, Department Heads, City workers and #UASCS Scholars conducted Quality of Life sweeps – cleaning the west Utica neighborhood streets. It was an excellent opportunity for our students to participate with a Utica Mayor and learn about our Utica community. Students learned that Mayor Palmieri is fully committed to providing Utica residents with a clean, safer place to live and work. Teaching our #UASAtoms the values of citizenship is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
