Wednesday, May 12th—After receiving thirteen years of education, countless tests, exams, papers and late nights studying there is one event that is weighing on the minds of the Utica Academy of Science high school students from the class of 2021. Graduation. With just over a month away, students, parents, teachers, faculty and staff are busy preparing for the upcoming commencement ceremony. Just last week, the class of 2021 picked up their cap and gown and tried them on for the first time! Students also had an opportunity to have their pictures taken professionally to commemorate this momentous occasion. In addition to pictures, Atoms also had a chance to decorate their caps as a way to celebrate all their hard work and accomplishments over these past thirteen years. Thursday, May 6th, 2021—In honor of Teacher Appreciation Day earlier this month, middle school parent, Mrs. Przybila generously delivered delicious half moon cookies as a way to thank all the teachers for their hard work and dedication. Words can not express how grateful and appreciative all the teachers were for this kind gesture. Thank you, Mrs. Przybila for thinking of the Utica Academy of Science middle school teachers!

Wednesday, May 5th, 2021—The Utica Academy of Science first grade Atoms in Miss DeAngelis and Ms. Biel’s class, celebrated Earth Day by participating in a variety of hands-on, minds-on activities. Students could create the following items

• Mini greenhouse
• Recyclable bird feeder
• Thank You letter for Earth
• Brown paper bag earth

Each of these activities provided the students with an opportunity to learn about the importance of taking care of Earth, upcycling material to create something new, seed germination and much more. Wednesday, May 12th, 2021—In honor of National School Nurse Day, Utica Academy of Science would like to take this moment to thank all of our school nurses for playing such a vital role not only this past school year but each and every day. These healthcare heroes make sure that our schools remain a safe, and healthy place where all students feel included and encouraged to learn especially during this unprecedented time in our nation's history. School nurses make a difference! Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and selfless commitment to the Atoms, teachers, faculty and staff. Happy School Nurse Day!

Friday, May 7th, 2021—In honor of Mother’s Day the Utica Academy of Science elementary Atoms in Miss. DeAngelis & Ms. Biel’s handcrafted something creative for that special someone in their lives. The students flexed their creativity when designing their very own Mother’s Day card that reads, “I am like a flower, that is raised with love by you. You help me grow up big and strong, Mommy, thanks for all you do!” Thank you to all the wonderful mothers and female figures in the Atoms’ lives. Thank you for all that you do! We hope you all had a wonderful and happy Mother’s day.

Wednesday, March 5th, 2021—Utica Academy of Science elementary school opened its doors and welcomed the future Class of 2034 for their Kindergarten Screening. This was the first time many of the families were able to enter the building, and excitement was shared by everyone. Congratulations to all the soon to be Atoms, we look forward to having you join us next school year. Welcome to Utica Academy of Science elementary school!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2021—Utica Academy of Science administration team had an opportunity to become First Aid and CPR certified. As the health and safety of all students, faculty and staff are of the utmost importance, having faculty and staff become CPR and First Aid certified will help Utica Academy of Science continue to be able to respond to any emergency situation both in or outside of school.

During the CPR and First Aid training session, participants were able to learn how to apply CPR and First Aid techniques, how to properly operate the AED machine, and how to respond to any life-affecting events.

Tuesday, May 4th, 2021—Words simply cannot express how thankful, grateful and our appreciation for the Utica Academy of Science Charter School teachers. This past year, you have all gone above and beyond the call of duty, have risen to the occasion and demonstrated perseverance and resilience so that you can meet the needs of the Atoms! This year has been challenging on many, and some how, and in some way you have overcome many obstacles and hurdles that were in your path, and have done so with positivity and kindness. We thank you for your continued flexibility, creativity and dedication. Many Atoms, one family. We hope you all have a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Day, and great remainder of the school year.

Tuesday, April 27th, 2021—Utica Academy of Science middle school teachers team up and find a creative way to turn ELA State Testing into something fun, and exciting. On the day of the ELA State Test, teachers wore matching t-shirts with a llama wearing sunglasses (not red pajamas) with the phrase, “Test Day, No Probllama!” This fun t-shirt sparked joy, happiness, and excitement amongst not only the students but faculty and staff, as well. What a fun and creative idea!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2021—Utica Academy of Science high school students had an opportunity to take the SAT Exam earlier today. This rigorous exam is roughly a 4 hour exam that tests a student on their reading, writing and math skills, and an essay portion which is optional. The highest score to receive on the SAT is a 1600.

Prior to the Atoms taking the SAT, students had their temperatures screened and were instructed to sit 6 feet apart. Way to go Atoms, we are so proud of you!
