Wednesday, September 8th, 2021—Dear SANY Families,
Welcome to another exciting school year at Utica Academy of Science! It’s hard to believe that it is already the first week of school. It seems like yesterday, I was giving the commencement address at the graduation ceremonies, and seeing pictures of the Atoms at their Kindergarten graduation, and moving up ceremonies. For all the new and returning families, I would like to take this time to say welcome to the Science Academies of New York (SANY) Charter Schools!
It is an incredible privilege to be a part of a community where students, parents, teachers, faculty, and staff care so much for one another and strive to build positive relationships that support academic success, while encouraging students to become good stewards in the community all while helping strengthen and develop character strengths and traits that will help students be successful beyond the classroom walls.
This past year has presented all of us with unimaginable challenges and obstacles, but in the same breath, it has brought an incredible opportunity for change. Words cannot describe how proud I am of our students, teachers, parents, faculty, staff and community who overcame herculean obstacles and did an amazing job keeping each other safe and ending the school year strong with many successes.
The first week of school is always a favorite time of mine as it's a fresh start for all of us. It’s a time of year where we build upon what we have learned in year’s past, and begin the climb in our journey to reach our goals for this upcoming year. While we started this school year experiencing transportation and logistical challenges with the Durham Bus Services, we are actively looking into finding alternative transportation options for our students to help resolve this issue. There is nothing we can’t achieve when we work together. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
While we may not know what this school year will bring, one thing will always remain certain. We are many Atoms, one family … and we can accomplish anything.
Let’s do this!
Regards,
Dr. Tolga Hayali, Ed.D
Superintendent
